Tribal Jewellery

Tribal Jewelleries are designed by indigenous tribal artisans to reflect their culture.

They normally use local materials to create these jewelleries. However, silver is common among all.

Despite long modernization; India has a rich tribal heritage. We have kept our unique traditions and values intact.

These jewelleries still reflects the earthly charm and the wearer’s status, possessions, spiritual beliefs and habits.

Here are the detailed descriptions of few tribes in India and their jewelleries style—

  1. Madhya Pradesh Tribes
  • Tribes of Bastar is famous over this area to use grass, natural beads and canes to make jewelleries.
  • They still use copper, glass, silver, wood, peacock feathers and wild flowers to make necklace, earrings, bangles and other jewelleries.
  • Their specialty is inclusion of one rupee coin on their necklaces.
  1. Meghalaya Tribes
  • Glass fluted stems- Garo hills
  • Red Coral beads – Jaintia and Khasi hills
  • They are very famous to form ornate necklaces, bracelets, briskets, earrings, belts and many other jewellery items.
  1. Sikkim Tribes
  • The Bhutia tribes of Sikkim prefer Gold, Turquoise stones, dzee stones and corals to make unique jewelleries out.
  1. Rajasthan Tribes
  • The Banjara Tribes of Rajasthan use colorful and weighty ornaments.
  • They emboss coins, shells, beads and metallic mesh to ornate their famous belts.
  • They also prefer variant colors and silver bells.
  1. Himachal Pradesh Tribes
  • Tribes of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi and Kullu use elliptical anklets, iron-headed bangles to decorate themselves.
  • They are unique in the world.
  • Collar like silver Hansalis, silver bangles reflect their aesthetic beliefs and protection from evil spirits.
