Trip to Bihar
Bihar; the state which is loaded with religious and cultural history is an off beaten track on the tourist map of India. The land has been raised by Buddha, Mahavira and Ashoka and had once ruled the entire Indian sub-continent.
Today, I will take you to a tour of few antique places of Bihar that will definitely attract you with its beauty.
- Bodh Gaya and Mahabodhi Temple
One of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage and UNESCO World heritage; Mahabodhi temple is a serene place to spend some time. Gautam Buddha has mediated under the great Bodhi Tree here.
Another major attraction in the noisy and unappealing town is Vishnupad temple where you will find footprints of Lord Vishnu.
To perform the holy “Pind Dan” rituals; pilgrims across the world come here.
- Nalanda Uniersity
One of the world’s oldest universities; Nalanda has been a significant centre for Buddhist learning in back 5th century. Although ruined and destroyed by the Muslim invaders; this place is UNESCO world heritage. It is believed that more than 9million manuscripts are thought to be destroyed.
- Lion Pillar, Vaishali
This pillar was built by emperor Ashoka to commemorate the teachings of Lord Buddha. This pillar also contains the teachings of Lord Mahavira.
- Rajgir Stupa
You can enjoy the aerial tramway uphill to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa and then can visit the Vulture’s peak where Buddha used to preach to his disciples. Hot Springs with its medicinal properties attract many visitors.
- Sher Shah Suri Mausoleum
Do visit this mausoleum at Sasaram;which reflects the age old history of Bihar as how important centre it was. This place is preached by many Sufi Saints. Numerous sacred tombs of Muslim rulers are present but the one which will attract your attention is of Sher Shah Suri; sitting in the middle of the large artificial lake.
